How to Choose Your Jeans Size: W and L Step by Step + Mustang Chart

Frequently asked questions

The first number (W) is the waist measurement in inches, and the second (L) is the inseam length. In Mustang’s size chart, W32 corresponds to a waist of 81–83 cm, and L32 to an inseam of 79–83 cm.

In men’s Mustang jeans, W30 is German size 44 and a waist of 76–78 cm. In women’s, W30 is size 38/40, a waist of 75–77 cm, and hips of 100–102 cm.

In Mustang’s size chart, an 80 cm waist is W31, in both men’s (79–80 cm) and women’s (78–80 cm) models. If you measure exactly 80 cm and the jeans are 100% cotton, or if you prefer a looser waistband, check W32 as well.

Not necessarily, because every brand publishes its own size chart. Compare your waist, hip, and inseam measurements in centimeters with the Mustang chart, not the W number on the label of another brand’s jeans.

Mustang’s size chart has no separate sizes for jeans with elastane, so choose by centimeters. Consider a smaller size only if you’re between two sizes and the model has 2–3% elastane.

Measure your waist at its narrowest point and your hips at their widest, with your feet together. Find the row for both measurements in Mustang’s women’s chart, and when the results differ, go by your hips in slim and skinny fits.
