A shoe size chart gives centimeters, but not always the same kind: sometimes it is foot length, sometimes the Japanese size from the size label, and at Domeno it is insole length. We show how to measure your foot, and we compare the official charts of Adidas, Nike, Puma, ASICS, Skechers and Domeno.
In the Adidas chart, size 42 is a foot 25.9 cm long, in the Nike chart 25.8 cm, and in the Domeno chart 28.5 cm. These numbers don’t contradict each other: Adidas and Nike give foot length, while Domeno gives insole length. That is why any shoe size chart works only if you know what the manufacturer measures and which column you are comparing your result with.
Below you will find a step-by-step guide to measuring your foot, the official Adidas, Nike and Puma charts, a comparison of five brands, and the sizing of Domeno, Mustang and Lee Cooper. The numbers in the tables come from the manufacturers’ official charts (as of October 4, 2026), and you can find models in these sizes in the women’s brand shoes and men’s brand shoes categories.
How to Measure Your Foot at Home
You need an A4 sheet of paper, a pencil, and a ruler or a tailor’s measuring tape. The measurement takes a few minutes and is more reliable than going by the size of your old shoes, because every brand sizes a little differently.
- Paper against the wall. Place the sheet on a hard floor with its short edge pushed against the wall.
- Foot on the paper. Stand on the sheet in the socks you will wear with the shoes, with your heel touching the wall. Stand normally, with your weight on both feet.
- Mark at the toes. Holding a pencil upright, mark the tip of your longest toe. It is not always the big toe.
- Measurement. Measure the distance from the edge of the sheet to the mark and write down the result to the nearest millimeter.
- Second foot. Repeat the measurement for your other foot. Use the longer result for the chart, ideally measured in the afternoon, because feet swell slightly during the day.
While you’re at it, measure the width of your foot at its widest point, the ball of the foot. The Adidas and Nike charts don’t give it, but the result will come in handy when you compare it with the insole of shoes in which you feel comfortable.
Compare your result with the “Foot length” column. Choose the smallest size whose length in the chart is equal to your measurement or greater. Here is how that looks in two brands that give foot length:
| Foot length | Adidas (EU) | Nike (EU) |
|---|---|---|
| 23 cm | 38 | 38 |
| 23.5 cm | 38 ⅔ | 38.5 |
| 24 cm | 39 ⅓ | 39 |
| 24.5 cm | 40 | 40 |
| 25 cm | 40 ⅔ | 40.5 |
| 25.5 cm | 41 ⅓ | 42 |
| 26 cm | 42 ⅔ | 42.5 |
| 26.5 cm | 43 ⅓ | 43 |
| 27 cm | 44 | 44 |
| 27.5 cm | 44 ⅔ | 44.5 |
| 28 cm | 45 ⅓ | 45.5 |
| 28.5 cm | 46 ⅔ | 46 |
| 29 cm | 47 ⅓ | 47 |
At a foot length of 25.5 cm, Nike jumps straight to 42, because the chart on nike.com has no size 41.5 after 41. You measure a child’s foot the same way, but growing room and how often to re-measure are a separate topic.
EU, UK, US and cm: What the Numbers in the Chart Mean
Each system counts size in a different unit, so conversions between them are never exact to the millimeter, and brands round them in their own way.
- EU
- The number of Paris points. One point is 2/3 cm, so consecutive whole EU sizes differ by about 6.7 mm of shoe length.
- UK
- Measured in a unit called the barleycorn, which is 1/3 of an inch: a full UK size is about 8.5 mm, and a half size about 4.2 mm. Inches will be familiar from W/L jeans sizes.
- US
- Men’s US sizes are usually 1 higher than UK (at Nike and Puma, UK 8 is US 9), but Adidas counts differently: there, UK 8 is US 8.5. Women’s US sizes differ even more: for UK 5, from US 6.5 at Adidas to US 8 at Puma.
- cm
- In the charts you will come across three different kinds of centimeters: foot length (Adidas, Nike), the Japanese size “CM/JP” (also shown on the size labels; at Nike, EU 42 is 26.5 cm for a foot of 25.8 cm), and insole length (Domeno). Compare your measurement only with foot length.
- Mondopoint
- Foot length in millimeters, sometimes together with width (e.g., 265/100). You will mostly come across it with ski boots.
Adidas Shoe Size Chart: EU, UK, US and Foot Length
The Adidas shoes category has 604 products at the time of writing, more than the Domeno, Puma or Reebok categories. Adidas is also the only brand described here whose EU sizes include the fractions ⅓ and ⅔. The charts on adidas.pl for women’s and men’s shoes show the same EU and UK sizes and the same foot length, and differ only in the US size.
| EU | UK | US men’s | US women’s | Foot length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | 3.5 | 4 | 5 | 22.1 cm |
| 36 ⅔ | 4 | 4.5 | 5.5 | 22.5 cm |
| 37 ⅓ | 4.5 | 5 | 6 | 22.9 cm |
| 38 | 5 | 5.5 | 6.5 | 23.3 cm |
| 38 ⅔ | 5.5 | 6 | 7 | 23.8 cm |
| 39 ⅓ | 6 | 6.5 | 7.5 | 24.2 cm |
| 40 | 6.5 | 7 | 8 | 24.6 cm |
| 40 ⅔ | 7 | 7.5 | 8.5 | 25.0 cm |
| 41 ⅓ | 7.5 | 8 | 9 | 25.5 cm |
| 42 | 8 | 8.5 | 9.5 | 25.9 cm |
| 42 ⅔ | 8.5 | 9 | 10 | 26.3 cm |
| 43 ⅓ | 9 | 9.5 | 10.5 | 26.7 cm |
| 44 | 9.5 | 10 | 11 | 27.1 cm |
| 44 ⅔ | 10 | 10.5 | 11.5 | 27.6 cm |
| 45 ⅓ | 10.5 | 11 | 12 | 28.0 cm |
| 46 | 11 | 11.5 | 12.5 | 28.4 cm |
| 46 ⅔ | 11.5 | 12 | 13 | 28.8 cm |
| 47 ⅓ | 12 | 12.5 | 13.5 | 29.3 cm |
In our store you will see Adidas sizes written as 42, 42 2/3 and 43 1/3. Consecutive sizes differ by ⅔ of an EU size, which is half a UK size, and in the chart that comes to about 0.4 cm of foot length: between 42 and 43 ⅓ there are two steps and 0.8 cm. When converting from other brands, compare centimeters, not size numbers. Adidas 42 ⅔ is UK 8.5, and Nike 42.5 is UK 8, even though their foot lengths differ by only 1 mm (26.3 and 26.2 cm).
Nike and Puma Shoe Size Charts
Nike lists EU sizes in half-size steps, but not all of them: the chart has no 37, 39.5, 41.5 or 43.5, for example. The chart on nike.com has two columns in centimeters: foot length and “CM/JP” (the Japanese size from the size label), which in that chart is 0.3–1.3 cm larger than the foot length. You can find models in these sizes in the Nike shoes category.

In its size chart for Poland, Puma gives no centimeters, only a conversion between EU, UK and US. The EU and UK sizes in it are the same for women’s and men’s shoes, while the US size depends on gender: women’s 38 is US 8, men’s 38 is US 6. You can compare your foot measurement here only indirectly: Puma UK 8 is EU 42, just like at Adidas, where that size corresponds to a foot length of 25.9 cm. You can find the full range in the Puma shoes category.

Is UK 8 EU 42 or 42.5? Five Brands in One Chart
In women’s sizes the brands agree: UK 5 is EU 38 everywhere, although the women’s US size ranges from 6.5 to 8. In men’s sizes they are half a size apart: UK 8 is EU 42 at Adidas and Puma, and EU 42.5 at Nike, ASICS and Skechers.
| Brand | UK 5 (women’s) | UK 8 (men’s) | Foot length for UK 8 | Chart source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adidas | EU 38, US 6.5 | EU 42, US 8.5 | 25.9 cm | adidas.pl |
| Nike | EU 38, US 7 | EU 42.5, US 9 | 26.2 cm | nike.com |
| Puma | EU 38, US 8 | EU 42, US 9 | not given in the chart | eu.puma.com |
| ASICS | EU 38, US 7 | EU 42.5, US 9 | 27 cm (“CM” column) | asics.com |
| Skechers | EU 38, US 8 | EU 42.5, US 9 | not given in the chart | skechers.com |
So buy by EU size and foot length, and treat UK and US sizes as a secondary guide. If you wear UK 8 in one brand, in another you may need a different EU size. With Skechers, be careful with the men’s chart on skechers.com: EU size 42.5 is repeated in it for different US sizes, and the brand does not give foot length. Here it is safest to stick to the EU size you wear in sneakers from other brands. You can find Skechers models in the Skechers shoes category.
Reebok sizes in our store include EU half sizes (e.g., 40.5 and 42.5), just like Nike and Puma. On the product pages you will find the brand’s size chart. If it has a column in centimeters, check whether it shows foot length or the Japanese size: in the Nike chart, for EU 42 the Japanese size is 26.5 cm and the foot is 25.8 cm.
Domeno, Mustang and Lee Cooper: Whole Sizes Only
In the models of these three brands that we checked there are no half sizes or fractional sizes, only whole EU sizes. The women’s Mustang 1488-303-243 low-top shoes and Lee Cooper LCW-26-44-4480LA canvas sneakers come in sizes 36 to 41 at the time of writing, and the men’s Domeno C0111RN1242_BR shoes in 41, 43, 44 and 45. With whole sizes the difference between sizes is larger, so measuring your foot accurately matters even more here. You can find all of the brand’s models in the Mustang shoes category.
In the chart on its website (domenoshoes.com), Domeno gives insole length, not foot length. The manufacturer itself recommends measuring your foot while standing, adding 0.5 cm to the result and comparing it with the chart for the specific model. The insole must be longer than the foot, which is why the numbers in this chart are higher than at Adidas or Nike.
| Domeno size | Insole length | Difference from the previous size |
|---|---|---|
| 39 | 26 cm | – |
| 40 | 26.5 cm | 0.5 cm |
| 41 | 27.5 cm | 1 cm |
| 42 | 28.5 cm | 1 cm |
| 43 | 29.5 cm | 1 cm |
| 44 | 30.5 cm | 1 cm |
| 45 | 31.5 cm | 1 cm |
The steps in the Domeno chart are not equal: between 39 and 40 there is half a centimeter, and after that a centimeter each. If your measurement with the allowance added comes out just above a size limit, check on the product page of the model in the Domeno shoes category whether the next size is available.

Larger Size or the Same? Wide Feet, Winter, and Exchanges
Take a larger size when…
- your measurement is between two sizes and the shoe laces up, so you can tighten it around your ankle,
- you are buying winter shoes that you will wear with thick socks,
- you have a wide foot and the model has no wide version (marked 2E or 4E on sneakers, for example).
Stay with your size when…
- you are buying slip-on shoes, such as Chelsea boots, that hold your foot only with the shaft,
- your measurement fits the size in the foot length column, e.g., 25.8 cm for Nike 42,
- you wear the shoes with thin socks, e.g., canvas sneakers in summer.
At Adidas, a larger size is one step in the chart, e.g., 42 ⅔ instead of 42, which is about 0.4 cm more. Try on fall and winter shoes with the socks you will wear with them. We explain how to choose Chelsea boots and lace-up boots for thicker socks in our guide to men’s fall shoes.
Running shoes are a separate matter: when you run, your foot swells and slides forward, so running shoes are usually chosen with more room in front of the toes than everyday shoes.
If you’re torn between two sizes, choose the one that matches the foot length column, and if the brand doesn’t give it, go by the EU size in which you wear the same style from another brand. If the size still doesn’t fit, at brandshoes.eu you can exchange the shoes for another size: check that it is available, fill out the exchange form, and send the pair back. If you prefer a return instead of an exchange, you have 14 days from receiving the package to withdraw from the contract, and you pay for sending the shoes back yourself. The details are explained on the returns, exchanges, and complaints page.
